Short Cuts

Do you get tired of trying to find that web site that had that great link to a really good page of information?  If so, you might want to consider putting a Shortcut icon on your desktop screen that connects you directly to that special page.

Step 1.   Point your cursor into the clear area of your desktop screen and right mouse click, one time.  This pops up a menu as shown below.

Step 2.  Point your cursor to New and when the next menu pops up, left mouse click, one time, on Shortcut.

Step 3.   When the "Create Shortcut" window appears just enter the site's URL link into the Command Line text box and press the NEXT button.

In this case the URL for the Market Calendar at dismal.com is:

http://www.dismal.com/economy/releases/calendar.asp

Note: Now I know what you're going to say, "some sites use Frames, the URL address doesn't change and there doesn't appear any way to find the address.  Click Here for the alternative method of setting up a shortcut.

Step 3a.   If the URL is a really long one you can copy the URL address from your browser by:

  • Highlighting the browser's address as shown below.

  • Hold down the control key (Ctrl) and press the "C" key, one time.

  • Left mouse click, one time, in the "Command Line" text box as shown above

  • Hold down the control key (Ctrl) and press the "V" key, one time.

  • Go to Step 4.

Step 4.   When the "Select a Title" window appears just enter whatever title you want for your shortcut and press the Finish button.

Step 5.   Double click on the Shortcut icon that you just created and it will launch your internet browser and take you directly to that special page.
